For patients with missing teeth, dentures can help to restore both look and function, granting you greater comfort and oral health. Dentures can assist with speaking, eating, and smiling confidently. There are different types of dentures for different solutions, many of which are both comfortable and natural-looking.

Types of Dentures

There are two main types of dentures: full dentures and partial dentures.

Full dentures provide a full set of teeth for those who are missing all of their natural teeth. Full dentures include conventional and immediate dentures. Immediate dentures are placed immediately following tooth removal so that you never go without a complete smile. Immediate dentures (also known as same day dentures) require some adjustments in the weeks following placement to ensure a lasting fit. This is because swelling in the gums will decrease during this time, altering shape. Conventional dentures are placed in the mouth after all natural teeth have been removed and the site of extraction permitted to heal.

Partial dentures use a metal framework that attaches to the natural tooth. Partials fill gaps left by missing teeth, but require healthy natural teeth to act as anchors and support for the prosthetic. Natural teeth might be left in the mouth in order to protect the jawbone and to minimize extraction. Crowns are sometimes added to natural teeth to further anchor the partial dentures. Partials are removable and may act as an alternative to dental bridges.

Caring for Dentures

Both full and partial dentures require specific care to last. When not in the mouth, dentures should be stored in water to prevent warping. You should also carefully brush and clean dentures on a daily basis to remove food particles and other debris. Use soft bristles and a gentle cleanser to avoid damaging the appliance.

I found this office through a friend referral at work. I had Dr. Sean Pierce see me and my husband as well. We met Letty A. our dental assistant, who was very nice and helpful. The front office staff has been very friendly and welcoming. Rebecca and Carina always greet us kindly. MY Hygienist, Paria was amazingly gentle during my teeth cleaning.
