Pediatric Care

in Orange, CA

Want your child to grow up actually looking forward to the dentist? Pediatric care in Orange, CA, starts with short and friendly checkups that help kids feel at home from their very first tooth. Dr. Lee has volunteered with the ADA Foundation's Give Kids A Smile program, and we keep every visit light and positive.

What is Pediatric Care

Why Pediatric Dental Care Matters, Even for Baby Teeth

Baby teeth help children chew, speak clearly and hold space for the adult teeth that come in later. When decay causes a baby tooth to be lost early, the nearby teeth can drift into the gap and crowd the adult tooth. Regular checkups catch small problems early and help your child learn to care for their teeth at home.

Dental care for kids includes exams, cleanings, fluoride and sealants that protect the grooves of the back teeth. For some early cavities, we can paint on silver diamine fluoride (SDF), a liquid that helps stop decay without drilling.

If a baby tooth comes out too soon, a space maintainer can hold room for the adult tooth. If your child chips or knocks out a tooth, call us right away and we'll do our best to see them quickly.

As a general practice, we care for patients of every age, so parents and children can see the same doctor.

The Benefits of Pediatric Dental Care

Healthy Habits

Your child learns how to brush and floss well, and you get simple advice on the snacks and drinks that are easier on young teeth.

Fewer Cavities

Fluoride, sealants and regular cleanings help protect your child's teeth during the years when they're most at risk for decay.

Positive Visits

Friendly, low-stress checkups help children feel comfortable at the dentist, which makes each visit easier as they grow.

The Pediatric Care Process

A child's checkup is short, and we explain each step to you and your child as we go.

Step 1

Getting Comfortable

Your child can try out the chair and see the light before we begin, so the visit feels familiar and nothing comes as a surprise.

Step 2

Exam

We check your child's teeth, gums, bite and jaw growth, and we take X-rays only when they're needed for a closer look.

Step 3

Cleaning & Fluoride

We clean your child's teeth and apply fluoride, and if the back teeth have deep grooves, we'll talk with you about sealants.

Step 4

Brushing Tips

With a hand mirror, we show your child the spots their toothbrush tends to miss and the easiest way to reach them at home.

Step 5

Next Steps

Before you leave, we share simple brushing tips for home and let you know when your child should come back for a checkup.

Our Difference

Relaxed Kids

Before we start, we show your child each tool and explain what it does in simple words, so nothing feels strange or scary.

Unrushed Visits

A nervous child gets extra time to settle in before we begin, and they can raise a hand for a break whenever they need one.

Four Languages

Our team speaks English, Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese, so more of your family can follow along and ask questions.

Volunteer Experience

Along with Give Kids A Smile, Dr. Lee has volunteered dental care for underserved communities in the U.S., Taiwan and Sri Lanka.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out these frequently asked questions, or call us at (714) 282-2525 to speak with our team.

When should my child first see a dentist?

The American Dental Association recommends a first visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. These early visits are short, with a quick look at the teeth and practical tips for you. They also help your child get used to the dental chair before anything needs treatment.

How can I prepare my child for the visit?

Keep the conversation simple and upbeat, and avoid words like "hurt" or "shot". Reading a picture book about the dentist or practicing "open wide" at home can also help. Let us know about any worries ahead of time, and we'll plan the visit around them.

Will our dental plan pay for my child's cleanings?

Usually, yes, since most plans cover children's checkups, cleanings and fluoride well, and many also cover sealants on permanent molars. If your family has Delta Dental, Tricare or a Connection Dental plan, we're in network. Send us your plan details before the visit and we'll check your child's benefits.

What should I do if my child knocks out a tooth?

Call us right away, because time matters. For an adult tooth, hold it by the chewing end, rinse it briefly if it's dirty and try to place it back in the socket, or keep it in milk and bring it with you. Please don't try to put a baby tooth back in.

Do cavities in baby teeth really need treatment?

Usually, yes, because baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth, often for years. An untreated cavity can cause pain, infection and trouble eating long before the tooth falls out. Some small early cavities can be managed with SDF instead of a filling, and we will explain the options for each tooth.
