Tooth Extraction

in Orange, CA

Dealing with a painful tooth that can't be saved? Tooth extraction in Orange, CA, ends the pain at its source so you can feel comfortable again. We also recommend the best way to replace the tooth so your smile stays complete.

What is Tooth Extraction

When Is Tooth Extraction Better Than Saving the Tooth?

We always try to save a natural tooth first, with a filling, crown or root canal. An extraction makes sense when a tooth is too damaged or infected to repair, loose from gum disease, or causing crowding or pain.

A simple extraction removes a tooth that is fully visible above the gum. A surgical extraction is used for a tooth that has broken off at the gumline or hasn't fully come in.

If you're likely to get an implant later, socket preservation can be done at the same visit. This fills the empty socket to help protect the bone.

The Benefits of Tooth Extraction

Pain Relief

Removing a cracked or badly infected tooth often eases the throbbing and pressure within a day or two, so you can eat and sleep again.

Stops Infection

An infected tooth can keep spreading bacteria into the nearby bone and gums, and taking it out removes the source of the infection.

Healthy Foundation

Clearing out a failing tooth leaves a healthy base for an implant, bridge or denture whenever you decide to replace the missing tooth.

The Tooth Extraction Process

Most extractions are done in a single visit, and the removal itself is often the quickest part.

Step 1

Symptoms & History

We ask where it hurts, how long it has bothered you and how you feel about dental work. Then we go over your numbing and sedation choices.

Step 2

Exam & Imaging

We examine the tooth and take X-rays, or a CBCT scan if roots are near nerves or sinuses. We explain why removal is recommended.

Step 3

Numbing

We numb the tooth and the gum around it, then wait until the area is fully numb. With IV sedation, the anesthesiologist monitors you the whole time.

Step 4

Tooth Removal

Our team carefully loosens and removes the tooth and adds socket preservation if you're planning an implant. Stitches are placed if needed.

Step 5

Aftercare

You'll go home with gauze and your take-home checklist, including next steps for replacing the tooth. Numbness usually fades in 2 to 4 hours.

Our Difference

Gentle Extractions

Our team checks that you're completely numb before we begin and works at a careful, steady pace, and you can raise a hand to pause.

IV Sedation Available

If you feel nervous about having a tooth out, IV sedation is available from a visiting dental anesthesiologist who monitors you throughout.

Multilingual Care

Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese are spoken here along with English, so you can hear your aftercare explained in the language you prefer.

Planning Ahead

When roots sit near a nerve or sinus, CBCT imaging shows them in 3D first, and we go over your replacement options ahead of time.

Did you know…

Socket preservation can be done at the same visit to help protect the bone if you plan to get an implant.

This was my first time here at the Dental Spa of Orange, and I must say that the Dentist, Dr. Marty is the Dentist I would recommend to anyone. Rebacca, who is the receptionist, was very helpful from the moment I walked in. She was very nice and greeted me with a warm welcome, leaving me feeling very comfortable as I waited to be called in for the operation. After a very short wait, I met Dr. Marty, who was very knowledgeable and extremely caring. My procedure consisted of pulling my two bottom wisdom teeth, which was a simple, short and very easy procedure under Dr. Marty's supervision. The Doctor even called me the next day to make sure that I was okay, showing that he truly cares for his patients. Letty, the dental assistant was also very accomodating and made me feel very comfortable before the procedure took place. She asked if I would like to pick some music to listen to before I was put under. She also gave me a blanket to keep me warm. During the procedure Letty was very attentive to ensuring my experience was as comfortable as possible, also constantly kept my mouth clear from any spit. I would highly recommend anyone to ask for her as the assistant for any procedure. Overall, this whole experience went very smoothly and I would highly recommend the Dental Spa of Orange to anybody. Dr. Marty is a very trustworthy dentist, and I will be going to him for all my dental needs. Thank you guys!

I can not say good things about this place. They took my fear and anxiety about the dentist and made me feel safe and comfortable. I can not say enough good things about this place.

I’m very pleased with this office. Honesty is important to me, and this office is that. One of my biggest issues that I have come across with dentistry is charging the insurance for work not done or having work done that is not needed. My last dentist stated I needed 6 fillings and 2 crowns. I went for a second opinion here, and not one of that was needed!

Dental spa has done multiple work for my mom's implants, she is 72 and has major implants needs. She is happy with dental spa's work. As for me, my cleaning is done here, the hygiest is the best. Thank you!

The dentists always takes extra time with my 6 year old when he’s cleaning his teeth, so much so, that my kids actually loves going to the dentist to get his teeth cleaned! The staff is very friendly, and I love that they have a toy chest for the kids when they do a good job getting their teeth cleaned. Always a great experience.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out these frequently asked questions, or call us at (714) 282-2525 to speak with our team.

Isn't it easier to just pull a bad tooth?

Saving the tooth is often the better choice once you consider what comes next. A missing tooth usually needs an implant, bridge or partial denture later, while a root canal and crown may let you keep the tooth for years. If you're in pain, call us early on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, and we'll try to see you quickly.

Does a tooth extraction hurt?

The area is fully numb before we begin, so you should feel only some pressure. IV sedation is available if you'd prefer to rest through it. Afterward, mild soreness usually lasts 2 or 3 days and eases with over-the-counter pain relievers. Call us if the pain improves and then gets worse, or if you notice a bad taste from the socket.

Will insurance cover my extraction?

Usually, at least in part. Removing a damaged or infected tooth is often covered as a basic or surgical service. For Delta Dental, Tricare and Connection Dental members, we're in network, and you'll know your share of the cost before we start.

What can I eat after an extraction?

Stick to soft, cool foods like yogurt, eggs and cooled soup for the first day or two. Chew on the other side and avoid straws and smoking at first, since the blood clot in the socket is what starts the healing. Most people are back to their normal meals within a few days, and after a simple extraction, many go back to work the next day.

Is it okay to leave the gap after an extraction?

It's usually best to replace a missing tooth, unless it's a wisdom tooth. A gap can let the neighboring teeth drift and the bone underneath shrink. We will go over implants, bridges and dentures with you, and you can decide if and when to move forward.
