Plaque is a soft, sticky film of bacteria that builds up in places your toothbrush and floss can't quite reach. Over time, it hardens into tartar, which only a dental professional can remove. A professional cleaning clears away both before they irritate your gums or lead to cavities.
Guided Biofilm Therapy starts with a harmless dye that colors the plaque, so we can see exactly where it is. An air polisher then uses warm water, air and a fine powder to lift it away, and we use hand instruments only where hard tartar remains.
Some patients need more than a routine cleaning. Periodontal maintenance is a deeper cleaning on a closer schedule for people with a history of gum disease. For some patients, an OralDNA saliva test can also show which bacteria are causing the problem, so home care can focus on them.

Bacteria along the gumline are a common cause of bad breath, and a thorough cleaning removes much of that buildup to freshen your mouth.
Polishing removes many surface stains from coffee, tea and red wine, so your teeth look brighter and feel smooth and clean.
A routine cleaning with us usually moves through five simple steps.
Book NowWe ask about any sensitivity, then measure your gums to see if a routine cleaning or periodontal maintenance is the right fit.
A harmless dye colors the plaque, so you and our team can see exactly which spots your toothbrush and floss have been missing.
The air polisher clears away the colored plaque with a fine, steady spray of warm water, air and powder that most people find comfortable.
We remove any hard tartar that's left with hand instruments, then floss between your teeth and point out where to focus at home.
We finish with an exam to check for any changes since your last visit, then update your home-care tips and next cleaning date.
Air polishing removes most plaque with a fine spray, so there is far less scraping. Many people with sensitive teeth find this much more comfortable.
Your gum health depends on more than brushing, so we also ask about dry mouth, sleep, stress and daily habits.
Dr. Lee holds OSAP Infection Control certification, which focuses on the sterilization and safety standards that protect every patient.
Before you leave, we show you the areas that need extra attention when you brush and let you know when your next cleaning is due.

Call (714) 282-2525Dr Desai was excellent explaining everything going on with my teeth and the options I had for future treatment needed. Also his assistant was very kind and efficient, unfortunately I did not get her name. Rebecca at the front desk, greeted me with a smile and helped me on my way out. I left there with my teeth feeling squeaky clean. Thank you everyone as Dental Spa of Orange : ) Yvette
Good cleaning and friendly staff. The Dr is very good. Been going there for years and very satisfied.
This was my first visit to a new Dentist in twenty years. I must say I was very impressed with the professionalism of the entire staff and the sophistication of the equipment that was skillfully used by the Doctor and attending technicians. Bettyana the hygienist was very attentive and explained everything to my understanding. The Doctor helped me to interpret the X-ray pictures and spot the trouble spots. He then designed a beautiful program to get me on track to arrest and hopefully reverse the until now neglected areas of my teeth and gums. Yanira the receptionist was very informative and explained how to set up my future dental maintenance program and even suggested a way to save money by recommending the Dental Spa and implant center of Orange to my family and friends. Which I will gladly do with confidence. Oh yeah and a shout out to the other front office workers named Rebecca and Karina who were heavily involved in getting me started on the eye opening, highly educational adventure. Thank you to all the team members of Dental Spa and implant center of Orange, I hold you all in high regard and pray God will bless your wonderful business and your families. Truly thankful, your new patient and cheerleader, Kevin Gilliam

For most people, no. The air polisher removes most plaque without long scraping, and if an area feels tender, we can slow down or take a break. Gums that were inflamed may feel a little sore for a day or so afterward.
Yes, in most cases you should keep flossing. Bleeding usually means your gums are inflamed from plaque, and it often improves within a week or two of a cleaning and daily flossing. If it doesn't, we can measure your gums to check for gum disease.
Most plans cover routine cleanings well, often twice a year, because they count as preventive care. Periodontal maintenance may be covered differently, so it's worth checking. If you have Delta Dental, Connection Dental or Tricare, you'll get in-network benefits here, and our front desk can look up your cleaning coverage ahead of time.
Every six months works well for most people. If you have a history of gum disease, periodontal maintenance is usually every three to four months, because the bacteria tend to return faster. We adjust your schedule based on how your gums respond.
A regular cleaning clears plaque and tartar from above and just below the gumline. A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, cleans deeper in the gum pockets when gum disease is present and is usually done with numbing. We will measure your gums and explain which one you need.
